Medical Transcriptionist Week Celebrations
This is Medical Transcriptionist Week! It is a celebration of YOU! I hope you are already enjoying the week and also planning some fun things to celebrate this week. We have some fun planned here as well to celebrate. Here’s an outline of our plan for the week. This is a long list, so stick with me!
Regular Posts
We will have daily posts this week, so please know that means you can expect a few more emails than usual. Stay tuned as well for at least one guest post from someone you will want to get to know!
MT “Puzzlers”
At the end of each post this week, starting with Tuesday, you will find an MT “Puzzler.” It’s simply a question designed to make you think and test your knowledge. It will hopefully also create some challenge for you in finding the answers.
Prizes!!
We have been very lucky here at MT Tools Online to have some great support from folks who value medical transcriptionists. Because of that support, we have prizes for this week! And by the way, it would be great for those of you who are on Facebook to find these folks and become their fans. They truly do support our community and the industry of medical transcription! Here’s a list of the prizes we will have:
From Stedman’s Word Book Series: Stedman’s has provided two copies of the books below!
Stedman’s Orthopaedic and Rehab Words, Sixth Edition
Stedman’s Radiology Words, Sixth Edition:
From Transcription Gear: TranscriptionGear.com has graciously provided a headset for one lucky winner!
Glimmer PC Headset
From HIPAA4MT: Get your HIPAA training here! These two prizes will be awarded with the first set of classes, scheduled to start June 14, 2010!
One “HIPAA for the Independent Contractor” Training Course
Two “General HIPAA Training Overview” Courses
From MT Tools Online: Planning to take your RMT or CMT Exam? This would be a great way to prepare!
Two Credential Study Course giveaways!
And our GRAND PRIZE, from Interfix!
The grand prize for the week is a one-year subscription to the Benchmark Knowledge Base product! All entries for the week will be entered into the drawing for this prize, and it will be announced the first of next week.
How do you win?
This one is simple–participation! Each day you will have an opportunity to enter the drawing for the day. Monday through Friday, we will have two drawings and the grand prize drawing will be done at the end of the week! You participate by doing two things: Provide a comment to the post, answer the question, give the correct answer to the “Puzzler.” Comments should add to the discussion, which means they should be something a bit more than “great post.” Second, post a link to your Facebook or Twitter account or wherever you hang out online with other MTs, inviting others to come join the fun. Those two simple things will put your name in the drawing! Each prize will be drawn and announced the following day.
Are you ready to play? The more you participate, the more chances you have to win! Have fun, enjoy, and good luck!
Monday’s MT Puzzler: Today’s prizes will include a copy of the Radiology Word Book and one General HIPAA Training Overview Course!

If a doctor suggests that a patient purchase a Songbird, the doctor is probably an ENT specialist and he is probably referring to a digital hearing aid.

The answer to Monday’s MT puzzler, “The doctor suggests the patient purchase a Songbird. What are they to buy?” is,
A hearing aid! They can be purchased without a doctor’s prescription for mild to moderate hearing loss. The company does recommend that you see your doctor to rule out any medical conditions that might cause hearing loss and that can be treated before making a decision to purchase their product.

Darn it! I left a typo in my previous post. How embarrassing!

Songbird hearing aid.
I have a question, though….this is about “Benchmark.” I don’t really understand what it is or does, benefits? I’ve seen it in the banner, but I don’t understand what it is really.

Sherry, Benchmark is an online tool that includes Stedman’s products electronically (dictionary, word books, drug book), the AHDI Book of Style, a great physician finder database, as well as the QA alerts related to dangerous abbreviations and a set of “normals” for lab values. It’s all accessible online through a web browser so it can replace your books and tools that you use. It is also updated as updates come out so no need to purchase the next book if you don’t want to. It also includes associate membership in AHDI. It is sold on a subscription basis so it is something you pay for every year. I’m hoping to have a video sometime in the near future about it so people can get a glimpse on how it works.

A hearing aid.

Oops! I just clicked on “find out more” and found out what Benchmark is. For now, I’m going to have to win it or take a pass because $200 is out of my range since I’m going to have to come up with the money to take the CMT exam when I’m ready for that–it’s a more immediate need for me.

I can’t get my comment to post! A Songbird is a hearing aid.
I am interested in your Benchmark program and am close to registering, as I am an Andrews Module 3 student at this time.

PS, I guess I was putting my Facebook link in the wrong spot, so here is my Part Deux…..

No problem. You don’t have to post your link in Facebook here. Just copy the URL here and put it on your Facebook page, tell your friends to come visit and join our party!

Thanks for offering the MT prizes, Kathy! I will try to get some MT friends over here for a visit.
