When Our Tools Don’t Work
Technology is a wonderful thing, when it works. When it doesn’t, it leads us to frustration, sometimes anger, sometimes we just give up, and in our industry, it often means lost income when we can’t work. This site has been all of those things the past three days as I’ve worked to get things back up and running so it all worked properly.
And so, TA-DA! Today it is almost there. The site is functional now, although your membership sign ins for your courses isn’t quite there yet. I am still awaiting assistance from that organization before we install that program again so that we don’t have another crash. Somehow a script went out on its own and created an additional 10,163 extra pages to this site! If that wasn’t bad enough, that led to an extraordinary amount of space being taken up on my hosting site (ya’ think?), which in turn was a violation of the terms of service. At 12:30 a.m. (yes, indeed, in the middle of the night!), on Saturday night, they called me to tell me they were shutting things down. Now, nobody likes to have those middle of the night calls, and this one was no different. The tech support guy I talked to at 1:00 a.m. (after waiting for a good long while to get to my turn in line) was very apologetic, and really it wasn’t his fault. Still, that’s just not a good time to call anyone unless you have a life or death emergency!
Today I heard from the membership software company. So far, all they have done is send me a very long list of things that might fix it, including deleting those 10,163 extra pages, which I could not access due to memory issues. Thankfully, the hosting site fixed that for me and got the site back up. I must say, even with the middle of the night call, this hosting service has really been good to work with. I HOPE the other piece will be fixed tomorrow!
Okay, so what’s next? First, I am extending the discount pricing for MT Tools Online membership through this Saturday, August 21. Instead of the normal price of $75, you can join for $50 if you do it by Saturday. After that, the price will be $75. Thank you for all of your patience with this.
The HIPAA Policies and Procedures can be found at the HIPAA4MT site and those will also be on sale for independent contractors for a discounted price of $60 through Saturday. Normally $200, this is a significant discount for those of you who are ICs and need this documentation. Be sure to select the button under Sample Policies and Procedures.
Whew! It feels like it’s been a LONG week already and it’s only Monday! I loved what we did last week with Fun Fridays and would like to do it again this week. So let’s hear from you. What should our Fun Fridays topic be this week? I look forward to your suggestions in the comments!
