Hey, you’re not kidding about back to school! I went in to Wal-Mart recently (my poor husband sitting out in the car waiting…and TIMING me, by the way), and it took forever to find what I wanted because EVERYWHERE I looked not only were there REGULAR shoppers, but the poor frustrated MOMS who were buying school supplies with the AHEM! HELP??? of her many children! It seems like every single mom had 3 or 4 of the little charmers running up and down every aisle, and all you could hear was, “Get back here!” and “Mom, I need these shoes!” and then, “We just BOUGHT you shoes, so put them down and get BACK HERE!” What should have taken me 15-20 minutes took me 90 minutes because of fighting all the opposing kiddie traffic running up and down every aisle of Wal-Mart. (The weird thing was that they were even over in the grocery aisles and where the laundry soap was!) Anyway, I survived that shopping trip, and we were definitely glad to fire up the Suburban, kick the A/C up to a fairly high setting and hit the road for home. You know, there are some days when I’m SAD that I’ve never had kids….and there are definitely some days when I feel GLAD that I never had kids! I know I could NOT handle the constant noise and there is no WAY I’ve EVER had that much energy, not even when I was a kid! LOL I don’t know how those of you who are mothers of young children manage it….wife (probably), mother (check!), maid/housekeepre, first-aid specialist, pro-bono teacher, cook, dishwasher, laundress, chauffeur, and the list goes on ad nauseum. I think I’ve talked about this before….oh, well, my mind just runs in circles?? At any rate, a BONUS to not having children is NOT having to buy back-to-school supplies! Hope those of you who have to do this type of shopping leave the kids with a sitter when you go…it might cost you a bit of the old “jingle” to pay for the sitter, but I think in the long run it will be worth it to avoid the hassles and the migraine!

Sherry, that’s too funny. Last week we had a friend visiting from Barbados and she and I were going to Wal-Mart. My husband’s friend (also from Barbados) was talking to him on Skype and telling him he MUST go “to protect the women.” When he got off the phone, he came and said he would go with us. My response? Absolutely not! That is one place I will NOT go with him because he gets so antsy!
As for school shopping, I love it! I never had kids either but taking my nieces and nephews was always an annual “Aunt Kathy” trip where we created some great memories. Now that my niece has young ones, I have taken them, but this year she beat me to it! Honestly, I love finding that stuff on sale! LOL When I lived in NC and didn’t have kids to shop for, I bought it and sent it to soldiers in Iraq who were helping build schools and trying to make friends with the children there. Okay, now maybe I’m the one who’s nuts for liking this time of year!

Oops! I was so excited in my storytelling that I said “Suburban,” when my car is NOT a Suburban but is in fact a Subaru Forrester! LOL

This conversation is interesting. I prefer to do my shopping at 7 a.m. No crowds. No kids. Fewer germs. No lines. Walmart is great at 7 a.m. Way back when, I used to complain that stores didn’t open until 9 or 10 a.m. I would take my kids to school and then would have to go home and wait for stores to open.

Lisa, my husband agrees with that one! He’s always trying to get me to do the grocery shopping at 6 a.m.! When I was in Barbados, I became an early morning person. Not so much now, although I don’t know why. I like Walmart at 10 at night too. IMO, ANY time where there’s very few people there is the time to go!
