I have some exciting news to share with you today. I am proud to announce that in September we will be opening the EHR Training Academy, which will provide training in the electronic health record.

This training that is being offered is the curriculum developed by the Office of the National Coordinator for Healthcare IT. It’s robust and contains everything you need to learn to prepare for one of the six identified roles in working with the electronic health record. The programs are designed for professionals with an IT or health care background and focus on training students for the following professional roles:

Practice workflow and information management redesign specialists
Clinician/practitioner consultants
Implementation support specialists
Implementation managers
Technical/software support
Trainers

While the programs are currently being offered at many community colleges, the curriculum materials have now been released for others to use to provide education. This training is designed to be completed in six months or less.

There will be several options available, from signing up for an entire work role program to taking individual courses. For medical transcriptionists who need continuing education credits, most of these programs have been preapproved by AHDI for CECs. All in all, there are over 200 courses, and they represent a total of 688 continuing credits!

There’s no time like the present to start planning to expand your knowledge and skill set. I’ve set up a mailing list so those who think they might be interested in staying informed about these courses can get information as we roll out the program. All you need to do is fill out the form below and you will be included on that list for the most up to date information about the training. While we do plan to roll out some special courses for educators next month, most courses will be opening in September. Sign up now and stay informed! I look forward to this new venture and to many of you joining us!
