Relationships are so important in our lives. Here’s a post we had last year where we talked about the value of relationships and about building unusual ones.

When I lived in Barbados, there was a saying that you had to “have a person” for everything. It just meant you had a connection with someone. For example, you needed a fish person, who was the person at the fish market that you bought your fresh fish from. When I needed to get my nails done, a friend called her “person” and got an appointment for me.

It seems to me that sometimes we just don’t build relationships with folks like we used to do. So many people don’t know their neighbors. As we move to more things being done online, I sometimes wonder if we will see even less of that. And yet, I don’t think that’s the case. This site is a great example of folks who are spending the time to get to know each other, even though they are miles apart!

This week has been a challenge for me because the update to my sites has created some challenges. In addition, my grandmother seems to have turned into a night owl. At 96, when she wanders in the middle of the night, we need to get up and get her settled back in bed. Today I responded to someone on this list about an email they sent, saying how challenging my week had been so far. Immediately back came a little note of encouragement. What a wonderful thing. And from someone I’ve never met in person.

Relationships are important, whatever form they take. Earlier this week, I ran across this video. I think it’s such a great example of a wonderful relationship. Is it related to medical transcription? Not at all, and yet, it is related to our lives, and so today I choose to share it with you. Take a minute, watch the video, and tell me about an “unusual” relationship you’ve had in your life. I look forward to your comments.
