It’s hard to believe we are at the end of 2011 already! It seems only yesterday we were talking about our plans for the new year and what goals we would set. And yet, here we are. I thought it would be interesting to do a recap of some of our more popular posts from 2011, so here you go!

Is Fear Holding You Back?
In this post, we talked about whether fear holds us back from the things we want to accomplish. It has some great comments as well and is worth revisiting.

In a post that had lots of sharing, we talked about what we do to walk away from work and not make that the entire focus of our lives.

We had a lot of discussions about the state of our industry this past year. In one, we took a hard look at “Whose Fault is it Anyway?” when it comes to things like MT pay.

Also related to MT pay, after reading some reports on another site, I asked the tough question “Are We Our Own Worst Enemy?” Some thought-provoking things in this one as we each think about how we could be contributing to lowering our income.

In May, we discussed The Final Summit and how we will deal with all of the changes that are coming at our profession. The charge is simple to do something!

One of the things I love about this community is your ability to tackle tough discussions. We did that in two separate posts about a dead moose. The first one, “We Have a Dead Moose,” is a good discussion about the EHR and how it will change our world. In the next post, we talked about the other moose on the table, and how we have to be ever accountable for the quality of our work.

We all need to find ways to be more productive in our work. The post about productivity tips is a great sharing of information on how to do just that.

One of the hot topics in our profession in 2011 has been mandatory credentialing. Many of you weighed in on this one!

As we worked to address the changes technology is bringing to our world, many of you participated in our study about the errors we find and fix or flag every single day. This led to our report “Identifying Errors, Protecting Patients,” a compilation of things shared by MTs from 19 different states. That report has now been shared with many outside of our small world, including the Institute of Medicine as they work to address unintended consequences of health IT! Your participation really is making a difference here!

We also are working to rebrand our profession. So many times we are told we’re “not clinical,” and this post addresses the statement “But What You Do Isn’t Clinical.”

We don’t always just talk about work here. Two other posts that were popular and bear repeating are how to deal with the energy suckers in our lives, and the post that asked “What Would You Do If You Knew You Could Not Fail?

I hope you enjoy this short walk down memory lane. We’ve had some great discussions in 2011 and tackled some tough topics. We’ve been able to do that because of you, each of you who come here, read, and participate. It’s always been done with respect for our differences in opinion and this kind of dialogue is why I love this community. Thank you for being a part of things in 2011. I look forward to what 2012 will bring!
