Medical Transcriptionist Week Poster

Happy Medical Transcriptionist Week! Today begins the week where we celebrate all that we do and who we are! I hope you have some plans to stop a bit this week and remember the value that you bring to the healthcare industry in providing quality documentation that assures patient’s story is told.

The poster above is our poster for MT Week, created by Regina Holliday. We’ve talked here before about Regina’s art work, and many you will remember that I have a walking gallery jacket created by her with my grandmother’s story. Regina wrote a post about her interpretation of this poster, called The Orchestra. As I read this, I was struck by how so much of health care is just that for the patient, an orchestra of care. I’ve had some MTs comment and ask why the patient is naked, even had a few who have said that bothered them. Here’s my take: first, it’s art. More important, when I saw this, I was struck by how vulnerable patients are in this process. So, while that’s not something necessarily mentioned in Regina’s post, that’s my take on part of what that shows.

What I do love about this is that it shows that it takes all of us to create this masterpiece we call providing quality health care. Without any one piece, the symphony simply won’t be the same. I believe that’s true when it comes to documentation. We have the ability to lessen the amount of errors in health care by playing our role in creating quality documentation. It’s important, and it matters.
