The MT Tools Credential Study Course, a study course for medical transcriptionists for the credentialing process, is now live! This course will cover the CMT and RMT credentialing exams and hopefully better prepare you to sit for the exam. For those who are already certified, it is a good refresher course, so come and join us. Unfortunately, AHDI has notified us that prep courses are no longer eligible for CEs so we cannot offer CE credits for it.
Why Take a Course?
It’s been a goal of yours, you want those initials behind your name. What’s stopping you? This course will help you feel better prepared to take that step and go for it. Prepared by CMTs who have years of experience, this course will cover the topics outlined in the candidate guides to give you a brush up on those skills you already possess and help you understand where your weaknesses may be.
How Long is the Course?
The course will run for 12 weeks. You can join at any time as it is a self-study, self-paced course. While it is self-paced, it is recommended that you complete it within the 12 week timeframe so that you have a well-defined goal of completing the course and going on to take the exam.
What is the Format for the Course?
Based on survey results from MT Tools, the course will be an email course with an online discussion forum. Only those who have registered for the course will have access to the forum. The forum will be a place where students can interact and ask questions about the material. Course material will be received via email two to three times per week throughout the 12 weeks of the program. Once you have registered, you will have lifetime access to the forums. Each section will have exercises to complete, and each medical section will also have proofreading/editing exercises. The real benefit over other self-study courses will be the forums, where you can get questions answered and have discussion. That means you won’t have to do this completely on your own, but will have the support to make it a successful course for you.
What Topics Will We Cover?
The breakdown of the course is as follows:
Week 1: Medical Language, Foreign Influence, Abbreviations and Acronyms
Week 2: Cardiology, Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery, Pulmonology
Week 3: Hematology and Oncology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology

I’m Already Certified, Can I Take This Course for CE Credits?
We applied to AHDI for credit approval for this course and have been informed that study courses like this are no longer eligible for approval as the policy is changing. Unfortunately, we will be unable to offer it for credit.
What is the Cost?
The course will cost $100 for the 12 week program.
Do You Offer Group Discounts?
Absolutely! For 10 or more who register from the same company, we will offer a 10% discount. Sign up with your co-workers and take advantage of this. This payment must be made as one payment to take advantage of the discount.
What Books do I Need?
Although not required, we recommend you purchase The CMT Review Guide for your studies. You can also purchase The RMT Review Guide
if you plan to take the RMT exam, however, we would suggest that The CMT Review Guide really covers everything you need, with a few additions that the RMT candidates do not need to study. We will be pointing out the differences as the course progresses.
