The MT Tools Credential Study Course, a study course for medical transcriptionists for the credentialing process, is now updated for the new AHDI exams! This course will cover the CMT, RMT, and CQE credentialing exams and hopefully better prepare you to sit for the exam. For those who are already certified, it is a good refresher course, so come and join us. Unfortunately, AHDI has notified us that prep courses are no longer eligible for CEs so we cannot offer CE credits for it.
Why Take a Course?
It’s been a goal of yours, you want those initials behind your name. What’s stopping you? This course will help you feel better prepared to take that step and go for it. Prepared by CMTs who have years of experience, this course will cover the topics outlined in the candidate guides to give you a brush up on those skills you already possess and help you understand where your weaknesses may be.
With the push in the industry for mandatory credentialing, getting your credential now makes you better prepared. Don’t find yourself struggling at the last minute to get this when you can do it now!
In addition, students who have taken the MT Tools Online course and gone on to take their credentialing exam have passed it! Be well prepared so you have a better chance at passing the exam the first time around.
I passed my CMT test on December 10, 2010. I was very pleased with this course and felt that it helped a great deal in my studies. It is very concise but still done in a way that is easily interpreted. It is definitely a tool that I would recommend to everyone. It was definitely money well spent. – Debbie Dunlap, CMT, Arkansas
I passed the RMT exam! My thanks to MT Tools Credentialing Class! The KEY TERMS and ABBREVIATIONS to know for each body system were particularly helpful in studying for my exam. And having a DISCUSSION BOARD where there was LIVE HELP available gave me a chance to interact with working transcriptionists and other students as well. Now on to the CMT Exam! Thank you, Kathy!
Cindy Stabler, RMT
I signed up for Kathy’s study course initially because the cost was reasonable and the time span of the course allowed me plenty of time to work at my own pace. Factoring in that Kathy is always available for discussion or to answer questions AND that she really keeps up to date on things related to AHDI and credentialing, which is why I wanted to take this course in the first place, I doubt if you could find either a better, more affordable course OR hands-on monitoring and availability of the creator when it comes to taking it to the next level (past taking the course on your own, I mean). The course materials were separated by units (including grammar, punctuation, and all of the medical specialties that are addressed in the credentialing exams). Like all things worth doing, it isn’t easy, but it is sure a good tool to find out what you know, what you don’t know, and offering the tools and expertise to help you to learn what you still need; and like all things worth KEEPING, the course keeps evolving to include what the newer credentialing exams are including (like voice recognition). Kathy is a great organizer and teacher. She is creative and never shies from questions—if you have one and she doesn’t know the answer off-hand, she’ll do what she can to get an answer for you, whether it is related to the course, to AHDI membership, to the exams, or whatever. I would definitely recommend Kathy’s credential study course because once you compare costs and realize how much of a savings THIS course is compared to others and then add in the fact that Kathy herself is SO accessible to the students, you just can’t beat the value. The course is all inclusive, as I said, from grammar and punctuation to coverage of the specialties. I just don’t see how some more expensive program can be better—I bet they are lacking in the one-on-one and small-group interactions that Kathy’s course offers. I just wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her course to anyone studying for certification! – Sherry Evans
How Long is the Course?
The course will run for 12 weeks. You can join at any time as it is a self-study, self-paced course. While it is self-paced, it is recommended that you complete it within the 12 week timeframe so that you have a well-defined goal of completing the course and going on to take the exam.
What is the Format for the Course?
Based on survey results from MT Tools, the course will be an email course with an online discussion forum. Only those who have registered for the course will have access to the forum. The forum will be a place where students can interact and ask questions about the material. Course material will be received via email two to three times per week throughout the 12 weeks of the program. Once you have registered, you will have lifetime access to the forums. Each section will have exercises to complete, and each medical section will also have proofreading/editing exercises. The real benefit over other self-study courses will be the forums, where you can get questions answered and have discussion. That means you won’t have to do this completely on your own, but will have the support to make it a successful course for you.
